Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 4, 2021 02:24 PM
From: Representative Karen Boback
To: All House members
Subject: The Honorable George C. Hasay Memorial Highway

It is my intention to introduce legislation to designation a portion of U.S. Route 11, also known as Main Street, from the intersection with Oak Street to the intersection of State Route 239 located in Shickshinny Borough, Luzerne County, as The Honorable George C. Hasay Memorial Highway.

I would like to honor/memorialize George C. Hasay for his service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and the residence of the 117th Legislative District. He was elected to serve as State Representative of the 117th Legislative District in 1973 at the age of 23, at that time the youngest ever elected, and served in that capacity for 34 years until his retirement in 2006.

George was a loyal and civic-minded individual. He dedicated his life to the care and devotion of serving others. He was active in his community holding many different roles and positions. Following his retirement he continued his civic interests through volunteer work at the AACA Museum in Hershey and served as a board member of the Northern Columbia County Community and Cultural Center in Benton. He was a trustee member of the Masons Sylvania Lodge No. 354, F. & A.M, Valley of Bloomsburg and a 33rd Degree member and Trustee of A.A.S.R., Valley of Bloomsburg; honorary member of the United Sportsmen Club 271, Huntington Mills, Sons of the American Legion Post 495, Shickshinny, and member of the Chimney Stack road and Hunting Club, Red Rock.

George died on February 8, 2021 at this home.

Please join me in honoring a former legislator by cosponsoring this legislation.
