Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 28, 2021 02:39 PM
From: Representative F. Todd Polinchock
To: All House members
Subject: Expanding Pennsylvania Military Decoration Eligibility

I will be introducing legislation to expand eligibility for certain military decorations that are authorized and presented by the Governor in the name of the Commonwealth.

Specifically, my bill will amend Title 51 (Military Affairs) to provide the ability to recognize civilians and members of the military of a friendly foreign nation with awarding of the Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal for meritorious service beyond the normal dictates of duty to this Commonwealth, and the Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal for meritorious service rendered to the Commonwealth and while holding a position of great responsibility, or who provide meritorious service to veterans and their families on behalf of the Commonwealth.

Currently, civilians, veterans, and members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Pennsylvania Guard, or the armed forces of the United States or their reserve components may be presented with these two medals.

I hope that you will join me in supporting this measure so that we can properly recognize the efforts, bravery, and sacrifices of our allies who support our great Commonwealth and serve alongside our troops.
