Subject: | 2021 Tax-Penalty Forgiveness Program |
Shortly, I will introduce legislation that will temporarily allow taxpayers who are delinquent on their taxes to make good on their tax bill without the additional financial burden of paying late fees, penalties or interest. Unlike tax-penalty relief programs of the past, this temporary program will permit any Pennsylvania taxpayer or small business to participate, even those who have participated in similar programs previously. The COVID-19 pandemic caused financial ruin for many across our Commonwealth, especially for our working families and small businesses. As a consequence, and through no fault of their own, many are now behind on their taxes and face substantial penalties for non-payment or lateness. It is our task to help these citizens of the Commonwealth as we slowly return to normalcy. Granting a temporary reprieve on tax penalties is just the kind of assistance we can provide, and in turn, lend hope to a seemingly hopeless financial hardship. Hardworking people have been financially devastated by this pandemic. Temporarily alleviating enforcement penalties for those sincerely trying to start over is a good first step towards rebuilding as a Commonwealth. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation. |
