MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 21, 2021 02:22 PM
From: Representative Karen Boback
To: All House members
Subject: Legislation – Establishing the Office of Adjutant General for Veterans Affairs

In the very near future, I will be introducing legislation to establish the Office of Deputy Adjutant General (ODAG) for Veterans’ Affairs to act as an independent office.  A model similar to our Office of State Fire Commissioner.

For many years, our veteran community has been asking for a separate department for veterans’ affairs.  The main reason for this request is that the veteran community believes that by having a separate department, Pennsylvania veterans and their families would be better served by an entity that is solely focused on their needs while administering the Commonwealth’s programs that serve the veteran community.

I am proposing to establish the office as an independent office that shares the resources of the overall department in terms of administrative support.  In addition, my legislation will provide for additional and specific duties to be carried out by ODAG as it relates to the office and Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission (SVC); an independent advisory commission, such as assisting the SVC with it carrying out its duties and responsibilities.

Please join me in sponsoring this very important legislation to help our veteran’s community.
