Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 14, 2021 02:18 PM
From: Representative Keith Gillespie
To: All House members
Subject: Municipalities Code

In the near future I plan to introduce legislation that would amend the Municipalities Code to allow municipal authorities to sell, at retail, the surplus energy produced at their facilities.  Currently, the electricity from these facilities is sold or distributed on a sale for resale basis to entities authorized to sell electric power to the public.  The legislation would authorize energy from waste, water supply works, and sewage treatment plants to sell their excess energy to commercial, governmental, institutional or  industrial customers only.  My legislation would assist numerous energy from waste facilities that have been impacted by the energy market to continue to be fiscally viable operation in their municipalities.

Introduced as HB1806
