Subject: State Licensing for Plumbers

Imagine coming home from a long day at work and as you step through the front door you hear a squish sound.  You stop and look down at the carpeted floor in confusion, only to realize that your living room is soaked due to a pipe bursting.

Calling a plumber to fix the pipe seems simple, until your options are limited due to service area restrictions.  For example, if you live in a municipality that borders another state you cannot hire a plumber from the bordering state because the license or certification requirements are determined on the local level.

Pennsylvania is one of only 6 states that does not have state-level licensing for plumbers in place.  Having said that; the duration of all training, licensing, work experience, and certification requirements vary across the 2,560 municipalities within the Commonwealth.

Is it time to streamline the licensing of these professionals by removing the guesswork for consumers and the barrier of opportunities?  The answer is simple, let us join the many other states in the nation and require state licensing for plumbers.

I hope that you will join me in co-sponsoring this proposal, which will support the men and women who work in this profession.
