Subject: | Expanding the opportunity for certain Hotel Liquor Licenses to convert to Restaurant Licenses |
Last session, the General Assembly passed Act 125 which allowed about 350 licensees to apply to convert their hotel liquor license issued before 1949 to a restaurant liquor license for $30,000. Unless converted, Hotel licenses must stay at the location on the license, making it difficult to transfer their license when a business closes. These establishments no longer operate as your typical hotel and qualify for a bedroom exemption from the PLCB. Due to the unusual circumstances last year, many of the licensees were unable to meet the deadline to apply for a conversion. In order to help, my legislation would re-open the original application window for hotels licensed prior to 1949 and allow a second category of hotel licensees to take advantage of this opportunity to convert their licenses. This second category would allow hotel licensees issued before 1965 that meet the room exemption to apply for a conversion along with the previous eligible licensees for a set time frame. My legislation would help people by giving them the opportunity to convert their old hotel licenses and unburden themselves of a liquor licenses they no longer want while also helping counties where there is an obvious lack of restaurant licenses. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation and helping these businesses across Pennsylvania. |
