|Subject:||COVID-19 Self-Service Storage Facility Lien Sale Prohibition|
|Pennsylvania workers continue to face enormous challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, the greatest of which is keeping their families healthy and the loss of income due to unemployment or underemployment. Should they be unable to make payments to a self-service storage facility where their belongings are stored, their goods should not be susceptible to sale.
I plan to introduce legislation to prohibit self-service storage facility owners from enforcing a lien sale for the duration of the COVID-19 declaration of disaster emergency when the occupant can prove financial hardship. Occupants in default must provide proof of loss of income due to unemployment. In addition, while the declaration of disaster emergency remains ongoing occupants will have the option to remove their property from the facility or pay amounts owed after the declaration has ended.
Workers need our help to retain their property, especially when they have lost a job through no fault of their own. I hope you will join me in support of these workers by co-sponsoring this legislation.
