Subject: | Rules Reform – Proportional Representation |
As members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, it is our duty to adopt House Rules at the beginning of every legislative session that ensure we are serving every Pennsylvania citizen in the best way possible. It is imperative that the House of Representatives conducts legislative action in a manner that truly represents the people of Pennsylvania. The Committee on Committees - which consists of the Speaker of the House, ten members of the majority party, and five members of the minority party – is given the responsibility to recommend members for all 24 committees and 56 subcommittees. I believe it is imperative to represent the people who voted us into office and make sure our committees adequately reflect the elected members of the House. That is why I am introducing a resolution to amend the House Rules for the 2021-2022 Legislative Session that would direct the Committee on Committees to determine the number of majority and minority members of each committee to proportionally reflect the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. It is crucial to have equal and proportional representation in every part of the legislative process to better reflect the Pennsylvanians that elected us to office. Please join me in showing your support to guarantee the will of the people is being listened to and not only a few select special interests. |
