|Subject:||Rules Change – Designation of Priority Bills|
Countless bills with innovative ideas and broad bipartisan support often languish in committee and are never afforded a vote. It is time that we make it easier for sensible legislation to be voted out of committee in a judicious manner if it is supported by those representing the people’s voice in Harrisburg.
The House Rules should guarantee an up/down vote for bills in committee with broad bipartisan support. For this reason, I plan to introduce a resolution allowing for the designation of “priority bills” when they receive 20 co-sponsors from each Party. Priority bills, when in committee, would then be guaranteed a vote to report the bill to the floor of the House. The majority chairperson of the committee would also be permitted to delay the vote up to an additional four legislative days to conduct a public hearing.
Our great state deserves elected leaders who will put the people first and work together on practical solutions for partisan gridlock in Harrisburg. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
