|Subject:||Unspent Appropriations from Prior Fiscal Years|
|At the end of every fiscal year, entities receiving state funding do not spend well over $1 billion per year. State agencies hold appropriations for years. Here are some examples:
In the near future I will be introducing legislation requiring the Auditor General to produce an annual report on unspent appropriations which is to be completed by Dec. 30 of every year. This report will require a full reporting of unspent prior year appropriations and require entities holding these funds to provide reasons why they are being held.
This financial transparency bill will protect taxpayers’ dollars and provide more accountability in state government.
Introduced as HB942
