Subject: Authorizing Pennsylvania to join the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote

In the 2015-16 legislative session, the bipartisan bill (H.B. 1542) was introduced authorizing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to join the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote.

This agreement, commonly referred to as the “National Popular Vote Bill,” if activated, would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Furthermore, this agreement would take effect only when states cumulatively possessing a majority of electoral votes, equaling 270, adopt the same agreement. Currently, 15 states and the District of Columbia with 196 electoral votes have enacted this legislation.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation which aims to ensure that every vote counts and that future presidential elections be awarded to the candidate receiving the most votes from the American people.

Introduced as HB270
