|Subject:||Preventing Harassment and Discrimination in the Work Place|
|The majority of sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace goes unreported. Potential whistleblowers may fear the threat of retaliation or be uncertain about what their options for recourse are. However, allowing these behaviors to go unaddressed creates a toxic work environment. Often victims in the workplace may have to make sure they are physically and economically safe before they are in a position to file a claim.
My bill addresses this issue by extending the amount of time a person has to file discrimination complaints with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. In addition, complainants would have the right to a trial by jury and the ability to collect punitive damages and attorney’s fees from the defendant. These reforms will eliminate key barriers that limit victims’ access to justice.
Often, it takes time for whistleblowers to not only build up the courage to come forward but to ensure they are physically and economically safe.
No one should have to endure harassment, fear and intimidation in their workplaces.
Join me in making sure we create safer work environments for everyone.
