MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 16, 2020 07:34 PM
From: Representative Malcolm Kenyatta
To: All House members
Subject: Urging Congress to Approve Direct Payments

Our country and our beloved state continue to experience the long-lasting effects of COVID-19.  Over 300,000 of our fellow Americans have lost their lives to the virus and thousands more are hospitalized.  The state unemployment rate is still exceedingly high – 7.3% in October – and countless residents have yet to receive their unemployment compensation benefits.  Evictions resume in January and a moratorium on utility shutoffs ended in November.  In short, people are struggling.

The federal government has not approved stimulus payments to individuals since March 2020 with the passage of the CARES Act.  This important piece of legislation was passed with bipartisan support.  It is time Congress to again approve direct payments to hardworking Americans.  It is time to put the people first.

This is why I plan to introduce a resolution urging Congress to include $1200.00 in direct payments to all Americans in the next COVID-19 related stimulus package.  Please join me in sending a message to our federal representatives that our struggling communities deserve better, that our families deserve better.  Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
