Subject: | Graphic Content in Schools |
I will be introducing legislation that will direct school entities, in coordination with the Department of Education, to establish graphic content policies and guidelines. These policies and guidelines will outline visual instruction or visual aids that contain obscene, indecent, profane and/or violent content that shall not be used in the classroom. This school year it was brought to my attention that a teacher showed a ninth-grade class a graphic music video as part of a lesson, depicting the violent shooting and killing of innocent people. Students should not be exposed to such abhorrent content in the classroom, especially without their parent or guardian’s knowledge and approval. I ask you to please join me in sponsoring this important legislation. |
