Subject: | Resolution Designating November 2020 as “Equine Month” in Pennsylvania |
The equine industry is a major driving force in the economy of our Commonwealth. Billions of dollars and thousands of jobs are created by this industry, which is also responsible for providing countless entertainment and recreational opportunities to people throughout the state. According to the PennState Extension, the equine industry contributes $3.3 billion to the state’s economy and provides employment to more than 60,000 people. These jobs are primarily found in the competition, racing, and recreation sectors, as well as equine rescues and horse-related therapy businesses. Furthermore, the industry supports four colleges and universities in Pennsylvania that offer equine-related degrees and programs. Additionally, the southeastern region of the state sees nearly $670 million of economic activity and 6,550 jobs from the industry. There are now more than 50,000 equines in the region, a 9.3% increase from just five years ago. Please join me in recognizing the important contributions the equine industry makes to our Commonwealth. |
