|Subject:||Expanding Construction Tax Credit Requirements|
|The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has had an extraordinary impact on our country and the rest of the world. Many operations, including construction sites, were forced to close while leaders determined how to best protect our families. Our Pennsylvania construction sites reopened May 1, 2020, implementing new safety measures specific to combating COVID-19. Protecting the health of our workers is crucial during unprecedented times like these. At the same time, we must also ensure that we protect workers’ financial security.
To guarantee that workers are being paid fairly for their hard work, especially during this new normal, I am introducing legislation that would apply prevailing wage requirements, as established under the Prevailing Wage Act of 1961, to all construction tax credits. This would ensure that a taxpayer who has been awarded construction tax credits has made legitimate efforts to not only employ local labor but to also pay them the minimum wage rate for which they are entitled.
Please join me in co-sponsoring legislation to provide for our dedicated laborers who unquestionably deserve a fair wage for their continuous hard work.
