|Subject:||Implicit Bias and Discrimination Training for Public Employees and Healthcare Workers|
|Persons of color are often marginalized, underserved, or made to feel different due to bias and discrimination. This implicit bias is felt in communities across the Commonwealth. In order to do better for all Pennsylvanians, we need to ensure all our public employees, elected officials, educators, and medical professionals have the cultural competence needed to serve our communities.
I will be introducing legislation which would require all public employees, public and private school teachers, higher education professors and employees, and licensed healthcare professionals to complete implicit bias training. The training will be developed and completed through the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission as an online course. Professions for which continuing education is required will be able to receive credit for the training, which will be required every two years.
Change is needed to ensure our children, families, friends, and neighbors receive the respect and service they deserve. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation to make a more equitable and fairer Commonwealth.
