MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 8, 2020 01:14 PM

To: All House members
Subject: Juvenile Services Providers’ Week in PA

I will be introducing a resolution declaring September 27 – October 3, 2020 as Juvenile Services Providers’ Week in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania has thousands of men and women dedicated to ensuring the proper care and supervision of justice-involved youth and are simultaneously committed to ensuring the protection of the Commonwealth’s communities. The statewide association representing juvenile justice service providers is celebrating 42 years of support for Pennsylvania’s juvenile detention centers, residential and community-based service providers who contribute to public safety by providing a stable environment for at-risk youth, providing education, programming, and ensuring sufficient opportunities for growth and development. The resolution will recognize their service and dedication to Pennsylvania’s Balanced and Restorative Justice Mission designed to hold justice-involved youth accountable for their actions, engage them in activities to restore victims and communities, and to build their competencies which moves these youth toward productive citizenship and away from further criminal activity. Additionally, it should be acknowledged that these essential individuals go to work each day, recognizing the risks they face and the increased vicarious risks to which they expose their own families and friends from the COVID pandemic.

I hope you will consider joining me in support of this resolution.
