Subject: | National Dwarfism Awareness Month (October 2020) |
Approximately 650,000 people around the world are affected by dwarfism, including more than 30,000 people in the United States. While dwarfism is a highly individualized condition that can require surgery and other medical interventions, most people with dwarfism live full and healthy lives. However, people with dwarfism may still be subjected to misperceptions and negative connotations. In order to raise positive awareness about dwarfism and to advocate for equal rights, Little People of America celebrates “National Dwarfism Awareness Month” every October. For this reason, my resolution will designate October 2020 as “National Dwarfism Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania to help challenge the stigma associated with individuals affected by dwarfism and ensure that they are treated with respect and dignity. Those affected by dwarfism deserve equal treatment and should be defined by their character, not by their condition. Please join me in supporting people with dwarfism and advocating for equal rights. |
