|Subject:||Recognizing Mayor Eddie Moran|
On November 5, 2019, Eddie Moran was elected Mayor of the City of Reading – beginning his term in office on January 6, 2020. In addition to becoming the first Latino Mayor of Reading, Mayor Moran is the first Latino to be elected Mayor of a Pennsylvania municipality with more than 85,000 residents.
Mayor Moran was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico, and he was raised in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Reading, Pennsylvania in 2008, where he served as a member and vice president of the Reading School Board as well as a member of the Reading Recreation Commission. Since taking office, Mayor Moran has made diversity a focus within his administration. He has also sought to build upon and improve Reading through four pillars: safe streets and safe neighborhoods, education and workforce development, community and economic development, and responsible leadership.
I will be introducing a resolution to honor Mayor Eddie Moran of the City of Reading for his trailblazing as the first Latino elected Mayor of a major municipality in Pennsylvania, as well as his continued leadership.
