Subject: Liquor License Redistricting for Statewide Economic Growth

Pennsylvania’s population has shifted dramatically since the liquor license quota system was created 80 years ago.  Those shifts – along with changes in business, industry and cultural habits – have rendered the current system ineffective.  Not one county in Pennsylvania complies with the current quota in state law of one license per 3,000 people

That’s why I plan to introduce legislation that would update Pennsylvania’s antiquated liquor licensing system to allow licenses to more accurately reflect population changes and better meet today’s business demands.

My legislation would allow liquor licenses to be sold across county lines, in a limited manner, for the first time since Prohibition.  Licensees in counties that have far too many licenses could sell their licenses to the prospective business owners in high-growth counties that are desperately seeking a license.  My bill would even out the distribution of liquor licenses, creating economic growth and thousands of new jobs across Pennsylvania.

Please join me in sponsoring this legislation to update Pennsylvania’s outdated license system, enable small businesses to grow and help our state’s vital hospitality industry to thrive.
