| Subject: | Pocono Raceway Days in Pennsylvania |
| In the future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing June 25 through 28, 2020, as "Pocono Raceway Days" in Pennsylvania. As you know, Pennsylvania has an extensive and rich history of motorsports of all types. The Commonwealth has benefited economically from the longtime investments of a range of businesses that are involved in the production and engineering of many motorsport vehicles used in racing today. Pennsylvania is one of two states having the most National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) fans and there are approximately 20 Chapters of Official NASCAR Members Clubs located in this Commonwealth. In terms of racetracks, Pennsylvania ranks among the top five states in the country and is home to Pocono Raceway, a family owned and operated racetrack serving thousands of stock car fans since 1968. Pocono Raceway is the Commonwealth’s largest raceway, hosting two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series events each year. This year features five premier NASCAR and ARCA races on one weekend, June 25 to 28. These include two NASCAR Cup Series race, a NASCAR Xfinity Series race, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race and an ARCA Menards Series race. Pocono Raceway goes the extra mile to honor and assist our nation’s heroes. Their efforts to thank active and retired service members start long before race season. Pocono Raceway has maintained a longstanding commitment to support veteran’s assistance foundations, including PA Wounded Warriors, Segs4Vets, VAREP, and Keystone Warriors. Funds from race weekends, banquets and an annual Warrior Dash race are given to deserving veterans in need. At the races, Pocono Raceway has a tradition of hosting Deferred Enlistment ceremonies, Gold Star Family memorial services, and Humvee driver introductions. Pocono Raceway has expanded veteran employment through a partnership between Pocono Organics and the Rodale Institute to provide family sustaining jobs to veterans reentering the workforce. In addition to these efforts, Pocono Raceway gives away a mortgage-free home to a deserving veteran each race season. Pocono Raceway displays exemplary patriotic spirit and dedication to the Commonwealth’s military community.
