MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 14, 2020 11:14 AM
From: Representative Cris Dush
To: All House members
Subject: Hunting, Firearm and Ammunition Life-Sustaining Business Act

The right to keep and bear arms in this country is one of the most fundamental facets of what it means to be an American. The ability of our citizens to purchase and maintain their arms is especially crucial during unprecedented circumstances like these.

Additionally, I know because of my time as a range safety officer, that many rural law enforcement agencies have agreements with local ranges in order to give their officers a place to practice with their service weapon. Without these ranges, many officers may lose their qualifications. The implications of this could be severe.

This is why I intend on introducing legislation that would declare all shooting ranges, sportsman clubs, hunting facilities, and firearm and ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers and distributors to be considered life-sustaining businesses. This declaration will prevent these businesses from having their operations interrupted during a declaration of emergency.

With my legislation, we can not only ensure that those we rely on to protect and serve can maintain their capabilities but also help protect our fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation.
