Subject: Reduced Hunting and Fishing Licenses for First Responders
As the pandemic unfolded throughout the past months, the heroic service of the state’s first responders has inspired us all.
In gratitude to them and to promote for them outdoor activities that have the benefits of relaxation, enjoyment of nature, and family participation, I will be introducing legislation along with Chairman Bill Kortz that allows first responders to qualify for a new $1 hunting license and a new $1 fishing license for one year.
These two bills offer a way to give back to these professionals who have answered the call to duty no matter the difficulty or danger.  Especially during these days, their public service is deserving of every possible acknowledgement and appreciation.
Both the Game Fund and the Fish and Boat Fund are operating with substantial reserves and are fiscally sound and able to afford these temporary new reduced licenses.  By charging $1 for the licenses, both commissions will still qualify for the federal matching funds they receive for each license sold.
First responders are defined as law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, emergency service dispatchers, ambulance drivers, correction officers, and others the commissions deem to respond to requests for emergency assistance.
Please join me as a co sponsor on this important legislation.
