Subject: | Emergency COVID-19 Leave Act |
Colleagues, As a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which granted paid sick leave to American Workers. This important legislation, in tackling the current COVID-19 crisis, gave Americans the chance to care for their own health and the health and welfare of their families when presumed to have the COVID-19 virus. Unfortunately, many of the essential workers and caregivers who have been on the frontlines of this pandemic were left out of the federal legislation. These brave Pennsylvanians in healthcare and service sector jobs, continue to risk their lives everyday to keep Pennsylvania running and to save the lives of our patients and our elderly. We owe it to them to make sure they are protected along with their families when they get sick. I intend to introduce legislation that will fill the gaps left by the federal legislation, ensuring that essential workers can stay at home when they or their family is presumed positive with COVID-19 and that they have a job to return to when they recover. I respectfully ask for your consideration to join me as a co-sponsor of this legislation. |
