Subject: | Banning the shutdown of Manufacturing during a Declaration of Disaster Emergency |
When we needed respirators, manufacturers re-tooled and got them to hospitals before the need exceeded the availability. When we needed masks, manufacturers re-tooled and met the need. When we needed sanitizer, manufacturers re-tooled to create it and in many cases provided it for free to our hospitals. Manufacturers did it all in a safe manner that kept their own employees safe. During this response to a pandemic disease it has become apparent to all that America's manufacturers have been the answer to the issue and not the problem. I am introducing legislation to keep the answers to our problems alive and well when we need them the most. This bill will prohibit the governor from closing a manufacturing business in this Commonwealth during a declaration of disaster emergency if the manufacturing business implements safety practices as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Department of Health. Please join me in sponsoring this critical piece of legislation which will protect our greatest solution to critical incidents from the arbitrary and capricious actions from an executive branch attempting to seed uncertainty and fear in those who have the real life, real time solutions we need in a crisis. |
