MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Increased Penalties for Unlicensed Drivers

In the near future, I will introduce legislation that will enhance penalties for certain driving infractions for unlicensed drivers in Pennsylvania. Two police officers in my district recently approached me about this. Upon review of Title 75, it appears that the penalties are not severe enough to correct the driving offenses that occur by individuals operating vehicles without a license. Driving in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is a privilege and should be treated as such.

If a person is operating a vehicle and does not have the proper credentials, they should not be driving. I believe these penalties need to be increased because unlicensed drivers have violated the law and are putting themselves and others in danger on the road.

This legislation is to deter individuals without a license from driving illegally in addition to increasing the consequences. Join me in support of making our streets safer and enhancing the penalties for violating Pennsylvania driving laws.
