Subject: | Resolution Recognizing May 10-16 as “National Prevention Week” |
As we all know, substance abuse is highly prevalent across the country and in Pennsylvania. Over the past two years, there have been 21,011 emergency room visits for opioid overdoses, 31,594 hotline calls for treatment resources, and 31,610 doses of naloxone administered by emergency medical services in Pennsylvania. “National Prevention Week” intends to educate and provide a platform that provides ideas, capacity building, tools, and resources to help individuals and communities make substance use prevention possible. It also encourages prevention-themed events for schools, whose students are at higher risk for substance abuse. Therefore, I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 10 – 16, 2020, as “National Prevention Week” in Pennsylvania. With the health and safety of Pennsylvania families in mind, it is imperative that we take the time to foster more awareness to tackle this deadly issue in this Commonwealth. |
