|Subject:||REVISED - Year of the Nurse and Midwife (2020)|
|Nurses and midwives play an incredibly vital role in the health care industry. In addition to their roles within health care facilities, they often serve as the bridge between the community and health institutions. In Pennsylvania, nurse researchers have been awarded the most funding in the country from the National Institutes of Health - more than $22 million - in order to provide evidence-based findings to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities.
With the accomplishments and contributions of nurses state-wide in mind, it is imperative that we take the time to honor the hardworking members of this profession. I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” in Pennsylvania. This recognition is parallel to the executive board of the World Health Organization’s designation.
As stewards of public health, it is my hope that you will join me in this collective effort to honor and celebrate the contributions of our nurses and midwives across this Commonwealth who work tirelessly and diligently to take care of the residents of Pennsylvania.
