|Subject:||Resolution: Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month|
|As the weather warms in Pennsylvania, many residents and visitors alike jump at the chance to get back on their motorcycles. In fact, there were nearly 380,000 registered motorcycles and 835,000 licensed motorcyclists in Pennsylvania in 2018. This makes May a great time to remind motorcyclists to keep safety top of mind, and to increase awareness among car and truck drivers of how to safely share the roads with motorcycles.
That is why I am again introducing a resolution to designate May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. Despite inevitable incidents, motorcycle operators continue to promote highway safety and encourage other motor vehicle operators to recognize and participate in motorcycle safety training throughout the month of May. I am encouraged by the decrease in the number of fatalities involving motorcycles from 2016 through 2018, and I hope that Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month will help motivate Pennsylvanians to continue this progress.
Please join me in promoting motorcycle safety during the month of May, thus helping to make Pennsylvania’s roads safer for all travelers.
