Subject: | Recognizing Community Risk Reduction Week in Pennsylvania |
Every 24 seconds, a fire department in the United States responds to a fire and, in 2017 alone, an estimated $23 billion in property damage occurred as a result of fire. In addition to property damage, fires endanger the lives of citizens and firefighters and can negatively impact entire communities. As such, I will be introducing a resolution to recognize the week of January 20 through January 26, 2020, as “Community Risk Reduction Week” in Pennsylvania. “CRR Week” is a grassroots effort aimed at promoting the use of Community Risk Reduction concepts across the nation. Fire departments and citizens through Pennsylvania, big or small, are invited to help raise awareness of techniques that can assist fire departments and make neighborhoods safer. Through the data-driven process of identifying and prioritizing local risks, communities can work to reduce the occurrence and impact of emergency events. Please join me in co-sponsoring this measure that will improve the safety of our firefighters throughout the Commonwealth and bring awareness to the ways in which we can protect our communities. Thank you for your consideration. |
