MEMORANDUM

To: All House Members

From: Representative Liz Hanbidge

Date: November 22, 2019

Subject: BPA in Baby Bottles

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastics include food and beverage storage containers such as water bottles, food cans, and baby bottles. Since 2010, the federal Food and Drug Administration has expressed concern that BPA can have potentially harmful effects on fetuses, infants, and young children.

In an effort to protect our children from this potentially harmful substance, I will be introducing legislation to keep BPA out of food and beverage containers intended for infants, including baby food containers, baby bottles, and similar items. In addition, any substance used in place of BPA would not be permitted to include carcinogens or reproductive toxicants as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to protect the children of Pennsylvania.

Introduced as HB2192
