|Subject:||Resolution Honoring the USS Pittsburgh|
|In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution that honors the USS Pittsburgh and its 35 years of patrolling the seas, protecting our freedom and democracy.
The USS Pittsburgh’s keel was laid down on April 15, 1983 and was launched on December 8, 1984, sponsored by Dr. Carol Sawyer. The Pittsburgh was commissioned on November 23, 1985 and is the fourth ship to bear her name.
The USS Pittsburgh on February 2, 1991 conducted submarine- launched Tomahawk missile attacks against Iraq in Operation Desert Storm. The USS Pittsburgh departed in October 2002 to deploy in the Mediterranean Sea where she again fired Tomahawk missiles into Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. She returned from that deployment on April 27, 2003.
In November 2017, the USS Pittsburgh completed its 1000th dive, an achievement few boats carry.
Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution that honors the USS Pittsburgh and all that she has done to protect our nation.
