Subject: Moving Oversight for Centers of Independent Living to the Department of Human Services
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending Act 139 of 1994 which established centers for independent living. This bill would amend current law as requested by the centers, to change the agency charged with overseeing the center from the Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) to the Department of Human Services (DHS).

By placing oversight of the centers under DHS, would align oversight of the centers with a state agency better prepared to address the issues/concerns of the centers and those they serve.
