MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 14, 2019 12:43 PM
From: Representative Kurt A. Masser
To: All House members
Subject: Amending Title 61 to allow county correctional officers to carry oleoresin capsicum spray (OC)

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation amending Title 61 to allow county correctional officers to carry oleoresin capsicum spray (OC).

In 2013, the federal government passed a law which required all federal correctional officers to carry OC. The state of Pennsylvania soon after adopted HB 2084 which became Act 174 of 2016 allowing state correctional officers to carry OC. At the time, county correctional officers were excluded. Injuries at the state level have been significantly reduced since Act 174.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB2749
