Subject: | Resolution Honoring Auto Racing Legend Roger Penske |
I plan to introduce a resolution honoring auto racing legend Roger Penske on being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, this past October. Mr. Penske was born in Ohio, but he started his racing and business career in Pennsylvania. Not only was he a successful driver, he achieved even more success in the business of racing. The team he established, Team Penske, has had tremendous success over the years, including more than 545 major race wins, including 18 Indianapolis 500s, and 36 championships. He was recently inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Mr. Penske is also founder and chairman of Penske Corporation, a diversified on-highway transportation services company operating in 3,200 locations and employing more than 64,000 people across the globe. On November 4, 2019, Penske Corporation announced that it had bought the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its IndyCar Series. This is great news for fans of open-wheel racing in America, and there’s no doubt that the “The Captain” and his talented team will breathe new life into this exciting aspect of motorsports. Please join me in honoring a man who has contributed so much to motorsports in this Commonwealth and the nation. |
