Subject:	National Coming Out Day in Pennsylvania

The battle for LGBT rights in America has been hard-fought and spans decades. Since the second march on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights on October 11, 1987, National Coming Out Day has been celebrated to mark the progress made and the progress to come in securing equal rights for our LGBT neighbors. National Coming Out Day helps raise awareness of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and its civil rights movement. By helping foster a safe environment for those who identify as LGBT, National Coming Out Day recognizes the right these individuals have to live their lives openly and honestly as all Americans are entitled to do. The Human Rights Campaign states that there are three stages to coming out: opening up to oneself, coming out, and living openly. With over 400,000 LGBT residents calling Pennsylvania home, we should do our best to not only include them but grant them the same liberty given to all residents of Pennsylvania; a life free of the fear of persecution. We ask that you co-sponsor this legislation and recognize October 11, 2019 as National Coming Out Day in Pennsylvania.
