Subject: | "Pro Bono Week" in Pennsylvania |
I am introducing a House Resolution designating the week of October 20 through October 26, 2019 as "Pro Bono Week" in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania attorneys provide legal assistance at low or no cost, commonly referred to as "pro bono" work, to more than 100,000 low-income clients each year. This includes over 10,000 mortgage foreclosure cases and 12,000 domestic violence cases. Additionally, they have helped more than 4000 Pennsylvanians review their records to see if they qualify for Clean Slate. Recognizing this week is an opportunity to highlight the difference lawyers make in their communities, to recruit and train more pro bono volunteers and to acknowledge the partnerships that form the basis for many of the private bar's most successful pro bono efforts. The Pennsylvania Bar Association is joining with the American Bar association to sponsor this October's annual National Pro Bono Week celebration which highlights the good work Pennsylvania attorneys do for the neediest among us. Please join me in recognizing this very important contribution to Pennsylvania. |
