Subject: | Free the Lemonade Stands |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation amending Title 53 (Municipalities Generally) and Title 68 (Real and Personal Property) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to minors to operate a lemonade stand, or other small business, without receiving a business license from their municipality or HOA. Pennsylvania has a long history of entrepreneurial spirit, but recent news articles about lemonade stands, run by a minor, being shut down due to a lack of a municipal permit is showing that we are not open to new entrepreneurs. These municipalities are preventing kids from learning a valuable lesson about running a small business. My legislation would allow a business, exclusively owned by one or more minors receiving not more than $10,000 in net proceeds per year, operating on an occasional basis from being required to obtain a license from the municipality or HOA that it operates out of. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to encourage our youth to start a lemonade stand or other small business. |
