Subject: Seizure Recognition Legislation
 
I plan to introduce legislation that requires our school nurses and professional employees be educated on seizure recognition and first aid.

Specifically, beginning with the school year 2021-2022, a school nurse will have completed a Department of Health (DOH) approved online course that includes information about seizure recognition, seizure action plan, and related first aid.

School professional employees, other than a school nurse, will have completed a DOH online course regarding awareness of a student with seizures that include information about seizure recognition and related first aid.

The DOH approved online course will be provided by a national nonprofit foundation with an understanding of epilepsy and seizure disorders.
