Subject: | June 2019 as "Dairy Month" in PA |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating June 2019 as “Dairy Month” in Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth has more than 6,500 dairy farms – the most in any state except Wisconsin – and is ranked 6th in total milk production nationally. Pennsylvania’s 525,000 cows produce more than 10.8 billion pounds of milk annually. Dairy is the economic driver for the Commonwealth’s number one industry, agriculture. The dairy industry supports the Commonwealth’s economy at a value of $14.7 billion a year and more than 52,000 jobs. “Dairy Month” offers an opportunity to honor dairy farm families who provide consumers with a large variety of fresh and wholesome dairy products that provide essential vitamins and nutrients. Please consider joining me in cosponsoring this resolution. |
