|Jazz music has left an indelible impression on American culture. While many may associate only New Orleans with the history of jazz, both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, as well as many other cities, towns and boroughs throughout Pennsylvania, have played an integral role in the evolution of jazz culture. In fact, two great Pennsylvanians, Kenny Clark and John Coltrane, were instrumental in bringing about the bebop revolution that dominated music in the mid-twentieth century.
Jazz in uniquely American, and Pennsylvania has played a major role in its development as well as its progression. For these reasons, I believe it is important to recognize April 2019 as National Jazz Month in Pennsylvania.
