Subject: School Bus Safety for Loading and Unloading Zones

Please join me in supporting my upcoming legislation that will ensure the safety of our children when they are loading and unloading on a school bus. This bill will prohibit vehicles from parking in a school bus loading and unloading zone during the school day. The intention for my bill is to cut down the amount of times school buses are forced to double park in the middle of the street. We have all seen the issue of a school bus having to stop in the middle of the road to load and unload school children because they are not able to get close enough to the curb, which places our children in harm’s way. Within my district, this issue has been brought to my attention from school bus drivers that work for the local schools. I have heard numerous complaints of children almost being hit or actually being hit by cars because the bus could not properly park to pick up or drop off kids. We should take every precautionary measure to ensure our children can safely load and unload from their local bus stop.

Again, I ask for your support on my upcoming bill that will provide more safety to our children when they are getting on and off the school bus.
