MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 25, 2019 03:37 PM
From: Representative Cris Dush
To: All House members
Subject: CPL James W Slagle 2nd Ranger Battalion ARmy Ranger WWII Memorial Bridge

I am seeking your support for legislation that will designate a portion of State Route 3033 over Redbank Creek in Brookville Borough, Jefferson County, as the CPL James Slagle 2nd Ranger Battalion Army Ranger WWI Memorial Bridge.

CPL James Slagle, of Brookville, served as a US Army Ranger in the 2nd Ranger Battalion during World War II. On June 6, 1944, his unit stormed the shores of Normandy as part of the D-Day Operation. As CPL Slagle landed on Omaha Beach, he was hit seven times and laid in the surf most of the day until another soldier dragged him to higher ground. He spent eighteen months in hospitals before returning home to Brookville.

CPL Slagle was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as commander of Post 204. He founded the Main Street Flag Association, an organization that purchased and maintained US flags along Main Street in Brookville.

Please join me in honoring and remembering our hometown hero, CPL James W Slagle.
