| With the advent of the Commonwealth’s unconventional natural gas industry and the greater need to deliver oil and natural gas to a broader market, Pennsylvania has seen an increase in pipeline construction. Therefore, due to the increased activities and interest surrounding the Commonwealth’s natural gas industry, I feel that it is pertinent that greater information and outreach be provided to affected communities. In an effort to provide greater transparency in the pipeline construction process, I will be introducing legislation that would require that pipeline operators notify property owners who would be affected by proposed pipeline projects. In addition, it would require that permit applications and other supporting documents, such as engineering studies, be made publicly accessible online to ensure easier public access to important information regarding these projects.
