Subject: | Family Medical Leave |
Pennsylvania workers should never be forced to choose between their job and the care of a terminally ill family member. We need to stand with these women and men, as they lovingly care for their family member, by providing leave and job protections during this difficult time. My legislation, a companion to Senate Bill 140, PN 287, will provide up to six weeks protected, unpaid leave for these Pennsylvanians. It applies to the care of a grandparent, parent, sibling, or grandchild with a certified terminal illness having no other suitable care giver in their immediate family. Supported by the PA Chamber of Business and Industry, this legislation passed unanimously out of the Senate Labor & Industry Committee (in its former iteration as Senate Bill 479, PN 2052) during the 2017-2018 Legislative Session. People should never have to forfeit their job to care for a terminally ill loved-one who has no one else to turn. Please join me in striving to protect people facing the most difficult of life’s circumstances. |
