MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 21, 2019 12:15 PM
From: Representative Thomas P. Murt
To: All House members
Subject: Certified Fire Protection Specialist (Prior HB 895)

I am planning to reintroduce legislation that would amend Title 35 (Health & Safety), Chapter 73 regarding Certified Fire Protection Specialists misrepresentation – previously HB 56 (Payne). The new language would state that an individual who is not duly certified as a fire protection specialist by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) may not hold themselves as a certified fire protection specialist with the intent to deceive another person.

The Office of the State Fire Commissioner has agreed to obtain and maintain a current list of certified fire protection specialists as provided by the NFPA. A person who violates this subsection shall, upon conviction, pay a fine of not more than $250 for the first offense and for the second or subsequent offense, pay a fine of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both.
