MEMORANDUM

Subject: Homeschooled Student Access to Vo-Tech

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would ensure all homeschooled students are given the same access as public school students to an area vocational-technical school.

Currently, under Pennsylvania law, homeschool students do not have a right to participate in a vo-tech program offered through their local school district. A school district may allow a homeschool student to participate, however, this is based on each school district’s individual policy. This results in a homeschool student’s access to an area vo-tech school dependent on which district they reside in, leaving some homeschool students unable to attend a vo-tech school.

My legislation would allow a homeschool student, who has been accepted to an area vo-tech school, to attend that school, with or without the school district’s consent. It is important that all Pennsylvania students have access to vo-tech education.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
