Subject:	Clarifying the Requirements for Setting Tax Levies for First Class Townships

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to save First Class Townships hundreds of dollars a year by allowing First Class Townships to pass an annual resolution to set their millage rate. Currently, First Class Townships are drafting and advertising an ordinance every year for the property tax millage rate even if the rate is remaining the same. Second Class Townships can pass a resolution without the additional costs associated with an ordinance. This legislation would add the words “by resolution” to the First Class Township Code.
